New Leo not eating

actioncritter Feb 04, 2005 08:27 AM

I just got a new Leo on Sunday. I haven't seen him eating yet. He looks and acts like he is healthy and I got him from a nice breeder. Could it be that perhaps he's still stressed from the move? I dust my crickets and mealies with Sandfire Leo Gecko dust. Maybe he's not used to dusting. Would that have anything to do with not eating? He does lick at the crickets as they hop by but I've not seen him go after one. He has pooped though, I guess thats I good sign. He may have eaten one or two and I just haven't noticed but there are still several crickets in the tank. I've tried feeding 3 or so each night. Any suggestions? How long should I wait before I really get worried?

He is probably still adjusting to the move. Do not handle or disturb him until he is eating regularly.

I would take a fecal sample to the vet just in case, you never know, and its not very expensive ($17 at my vet)

I am going to give him a few more days. He acts like he feels fine and all. There are no exotic vets within 60 miles of my house. Isn't that crazy?

You can usually get a fecal done at any vet, even if they dont do exotics. I would call and ask

I agree, it's probably stress. It doesn't matter if it's a short move across town or a long trip by air/mail.. sometimes they are too stressed to eat right away. I find that sub adults and adults are harder to get accustomed to their new environments than hatchlings and juveniles are. I had one adult in particular, shipped by mail, not eat for 7 days after arrival. He came from a very reputable breeder, so I just gave him time. Hopefully yours will not go that long, but I'm sure he/she will come around. 7 days is a long time, I'd say 4 days is about average in my experiences. Good luck!
