Heat tape regualtion problem

bdomina Feb 04, 2005 01:22 PM

Using your standard heat tape I have the connections secured to the tape in the appropriate areas. spliced in line is a dimmer switch that I should be able to regulate the temp with. straight to the outlet it is too hot 80 - 90 degrees all the way down. but when I splice a power adapter in 48V output 600ma it is like it isn't even on. room temp. even if it is turned all the way up. any suggestions?

Sorry I don't have an answer to your problem but I had the same experience you had.

I used the dimmer that everybody on Kinsnake recommended and I couldn't get the temp to go up higher than 82 with it in line. I ended up ditching the flexwatt and went with an UTH.

Well i guess everyone on kingsnake mis-informed you, you should have went with a thermostat instead of a rheostat(or dimmer). That way you can control the temps and get it perfect because dimming it will only give you 3 different options (high, medium, low).

got any kind of a wiring diagram? a thermostat has to have some kind of thermometer to tell how hot / cold it is. right?

Yes thermostats have probes, but i dont know a lot about heat tape and thermostats so you should ask JustCage or go to his website at MGReptiles.com and hopfully he can help you.
