We started with a 20 gallon long...it lasted until Drako was almost 5 months old. Drako is now living it up in a 75 gallon.

If you have the room and the funds, go ahead and purchase the larger tank, you can use seperators to section off the tank--increasing the area as your baby grows.

If you need to start small then a 20 would be the easiest to keep the temps correct in.

Go to my website www.funnymanreptiles.com, and go to Bearded Dragons, and then Care Sheet. In the care sheet section reaed the housing sectiong and it'll tell you the minimum tank sizes and sizes to move your lizard and all that good stuff.

you can start with a 20gallon. next size up would be a 40gallon which u could move a dragon into at about... 4-5 months.

A 20Long is the smallest size tank i would start a beardie in. Some people say as small as 10gallon, but i personally see 10gallon tanks as insta-death for your beardie. There is no way to achieve the optimun temps in that small of a tank without cooking the lizard. If one part of a 10gallon is 95-110degrees (optimum temps) then the whole tank is going to be that hot and the beardie will die.

A 20Long can last for a few months, but not many, i personally would recomend getting the biggest tank you can afford and sectioning it off as your baby grows. You save a lot of money that way.

well i have a 20L now so im going to start him in that then in a about a month a friend of mine is giving me a 40g he has because his snake is in need of a bigger cage then i will eventually move up to probally a 60g hows that sound?

Find out if the tank your friend has is a 40Breeder or a 40Long, 40longs dont work very wel for beardies because they are too narrow, and any beardie over 12inches cannot turn around in it. 40gallon breeders are roughly 3ftL x 2ftW...lots of turning space.

60gallons is an aqequate amount of space, but again i believe that the standard 60gallon aquariums are very tall and thin. Try to find a 60gallon breeder, i know they make them, but you may have to go through a tropical fish store. Or just go with a 75gallon.

Good luck
