How far inside their head can ball pythons push their eyes?

etchouta Feb 04, 2005 07:33 PM

Hi,

I am not new to this forum, but this is my first post, mainly because everytime I have an issue with my herps there is a post that already covered it. I have been keeping snakes and lizards for a long time, but I am new to ball pythons.

I received my first one one week ago and he is doing well. Today I was looking at him and noticed something weird about one of his eyes. There was a dent in it. I know about dents in eyes when snakes are dehydrated or when the enclosure is too dry. My enclosure is at 60% humidity, there is a large water bowl and one of the hides has humid moss in it. I was wondering what was wrong. on closer inspection, I realized that the dent I was seeing was due to the fact that my snake had his head tightly agains the side of the enclosure. I then looked from above and his skull was right agains the glass, with the eye completely INSIDE the head and not out like normal. A couple hours later, the snake changed position and when I look again, there was no dent anymore and both eyes were normal.

So I was just wondering if this is normal and if any of you noticed that in their animal too.

Thanks,

Alex

It's normal, their eyes can go at least flush with the eye sockets (if not more). Sounds like you remember what you read and don't have to ask too many already answered Q's?

Sounds like you got a happy animal, and thats all that matters.

Take it easy,
