Under tank heaters - turn them off at day and on at night?

jakeleolizard Feb 04, 2005 08:51 PM

Hey all - in line with my other post.. I was just wanting to get all of your opinions on undertank heaters - not whether to use it or not, but for those who do use them, do you turn them off during the day and off at night? I was going to do that b/c my temp is so high. Or do a lot of you simply not even use them?

I don't use any heat at night either. All lights out at night.

Your tank sounds NICE, and I know from talking to you many times, how much you care about your little guy. How hard you have worked to help him when sick.

Your doing a fine job Jim, Sounds like you use alot of heat and lights hehehehe.

Why all the night time heat? Are you from a very cold climate?

But I still am thinking I may be using too much. He IS on an outside wall of my condo by the patio door. I made a pretty cool shelve to hold his tank on the wall... looks pretty darn cool even if I say so myself... I used cabling, etc... so, he fits very nice right there in my living room... but... I am beginning to really wonder if I DO use too much. In the summer... I should probably turn it off... nights can only get down to like 80... in teh winter time, they can get down to maybe 65, but typically stay at about 70-73 I would say. i kinda like it warm myself How cold can they get at night? Would after having the heat for over a year, would that affect him if I now took it away?

heat at night Jim, my house is kept at about 68, they are fine.

The ONLY time I heat is if I get a wc thats sickly, I heat ,force feed, until better. Then no heat for them either.

I would maybe cut it down slowly if you have heated at night for a year. What ever wattage you use at night go down to a lower one, until its the lowest and them stop.

Yeah. I am going to do that. I may turn the undertank heater off and keep the red night light on for a while and then phase that out. I just think the poor guy has too much heat.

Thanks for the input!!!
