Firebellied Toad with cloudy eyes

crazy_ewok Feb 04, 2005 09:08 PM

I've had three firebellied toads for several years now, and just a couple months ago, one of them developed a cloudy eye. It seems to be getting progressively worse, and today I discovered that his other eye is starting to look cloudy too. Other than his eyes, the frog acts and looks completely healthy.

I haven't been able to find much about this on the Internet. I'd greatly appreciate any information about what causes this and what I can do to treat it. Thanks!!

my RETF has a cloudy eye but it is from damage. cloudy eye can be caused by many things, stress, diet, dirty tank.

since it is the only one, i would definately separate it, put it in a "hospital tank". pay close attention to it getting enough food, and try not to disturb it at all. i would put some moss in there and a bowl to soak in. change the water every 24-48 hours.
if possible quarantine it to a separate room, you can never be too careful. if it does not mind, feed it with tongs so you can regulate the amount of food it gets at certain times, and also , loose crickets running around when its trying to sleep could further the possible stress.
good luck

It could be a parasite from having a dirty tank or something. I would definitely quarntine it, just do what the other guy said.

OK. Thank you. I will definitely try this. Are cloudy eyes ever a cause of a life-threatening illness?

It could be a parasite, which could kill it. Just keep checking on it and if it seems ok after awhile, then it's probaly ok.
