Northern Pacific Rattlesnake

mtnmanmike Feb 04, 2005 09:28 PM

I recently purchased a Northern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis oreganus), and was wondering if any of you know how closely their venom resembles the venom of its southern namesake (C. v. helleri). I have had a copperhead for sometime and wanted to get a rattlesnake, so good or bad i chose this one. Also, if any of you know any good care tips or where i can find a good care sheet, that would be good too. After all you can never know to much.

Thanks

I'm no expert but, from what I understand, C. v. helleri has much more of a neurotoxic element to it's venom and, from what I've read are a bit more aggressive. All C. v. oreganus I've personally dealt with in the field have been pretty easy to deal with. I've never seen a C.v.helleri in the field though so I can't really compare the two as accurately as you would probably like. But, hopefully this gives you something to start with.

here's a C.v.viridis for ya!!!

later,
Randy
