Hi,
I just want to know what you guys think of my snapper in terms of rarity in coloration from the rate of 1-to-10, 10 being the most rare.

Hi,
I just want to know what you guys think of my snapper in terms of rarity in coloration from the rate of 1-to-10, 10 being the most rare.
i would say it has luecistic characteristics, more than ive seen on others using that term to identify thier turtles.nice looking turtle.id say a 6-7 rating.
Lovemoney,
Thank you for the feedback. I hope I'm not pushing it but just as a snapper, what would you rate it?
Leucistic = white
The pink skin ally snappers that are commonly sold, are pink! They are HYPO alligator snapping turtles, despite what Jon Richards sold them as.
Mike
Michael's Place
No one said it a leucistic. In Lovemoney's defense, all s/he said was it has more leucistic characteristics than those who claims the same with their turtles.
i said it had leucistic characteristic, obviously some people dont read or type well in thier responces.ive seen herper whatever the name always post on threads when its about a color trait, maybe he knows more than john richards, lol.there are pinks, leucistics, hypos, all kinds of morphs.from the photo it looks more white skinned with black markings than pink.as for rating i love all snappers but if it has all claws, limbs no shell damage,or broken beak or tail i rate it high with ist coloring.
Yeah I agree. Relax...
My little guy started out looking just like this. Its a year later now , and he's much less pink. More buttery yellow.
still great looking.
When he was little...if I fed him more pink pellets, the pink would come out more.
He lost most of that the last year.
I will say ( check back posts)
They can be a bit more fragile. I've found a littler higher temp and a little better humidity has kept him much happier.
Also hes with 3 regulars ( alligator snappers )
and he is no-where near as aggressive for food.
You have to always make sure he gets some rosies. The other guys will always beat him to it.
nice looking snapper, but not all that rare on the market. P&J turtle farm told me about 5% hatch this color. and they hatch a month later than the regular phase. Does anyone know what the red phase snappers look like as hatchlings? John Richards claims the pinkskins like yours turns into the yellow shell turtle.
My guess is that they grow up to look like this - (I got this one as an sub adult, so, I don't know it looked like as a baby

Im raising one of the little "pinkskins" too - My "normal" is browner then both of these -

Here I am holding her, shot around last december -
