Couple of interesting photos...

bsmith251 Feb 05, 2005 01:50 AM

The following photos are of some pretty sickly geckos that I am acclimating at home for a friend... They were in pretty bad shape, but I am trying my luck at playing God... As you can see, they were taken by my roommate...

This one is of a WC hatchling fimbriatus... It's sad that they are burning up quota numbers on animals that stand an even worse chance at surviving through the importation process than the adults do...

This is a "gecko mite" on a U. sikorae.(working on the ID, more than likely its undescribed) The infestation wasn't all that bad and should easly be treated, but he did have a few throughout his body and several congrigated around the eyes (a common spot for most herp mites)...

Ben,

I've seen a lot of these type of mites on my WC uroplatus. I saw the most of them them on the U. pietachmanni, but I have seen then on the linneatus and other species as well. They arent hard to remove unless they are in between the toe pads at least. I cant be sure if its the same mite, I'm afraid my camera doesnt go that close in detail and I cant see that small anymore. The ones I am referring to look like a red scale on the body.

thats funny (not funny haha though) because my pietschmanni are the only species ive had that have EVER had a mite problem, and it seems to be that same kind of red blood mite. i got that taken care of with 3 shots 2 weeks apart of ivermectin from the local exotics vet.
