Black blood hatchling!

googo151 Feb 05, 2005 02:58 AM

Hey Bloods,
Here is the second of 2 babies that hatched for me on the 3rd and 4th, respectively.
This little one, hatched-out on the 4th. He/she, is pure black as you can see from the photo with some very nice striping. I won't be parting with the babies this time out, as I did not get a large clutch from this breeding and want to reintroduce the blood line (Tim Meade line) into the breeding group of Blacks. This ones daddy (sire), died unexpectedly, in August 2004, from an agressive infection. My sincerest apologies to those that were waiting on babies. If there should be any change I will undoubtedly, inform those of you that inquired about this clutch, inorder of inqueries.

Pictured are the 2 that so far have hatched from the group. The fist to hatch is the lighter colored one with the peach colored head.

Hey Big,
Yes! this is my first clutch of Black's, and bloods for that matter, however, not my last. Unfortunately, I lost 4 babies from this clutch out of 8 that were laid, and was left with 4, which I'm not complaining about, except that there were some blood peeps waiting on babies. I'm hoping to reintroduce some of the blood from this male (sire) back into the collection along with the Bob Clark female that produced this clutch.

They're here! I've got 4 out of a clutch of 8; not a bad ratio for my first clutch of blacks. Should be another one gravid in not mistaken.

Angel -- I'd seen pics of your snake Jet, thought it was definately one of the nicest black bloods I've seen. But a couple of those babies are unreal -- super dark! I'm putting up a photo of my babies from last year NOT to try to compete, but because I'm jealous. None of my babies can match those. Sorry to read that the sire was lost, but congratulations on the babies, they are smokers.

Hey,
Wow! that is an awesome photo, of your little ones. I didn't think you were trying to compete with me, I know it's that kind of thing, you just want to get the pic's out there and show them off; and it's so cool. I was lucky with the small group or clutch. The numbers were small, but I got some very dark babies out of it and that made it all the more worth it. I got one pumpkin colored head, and that was the first to show its head and hatch-out. The one to follow was the darkest of the bunch and the rest are also, very dark. I feel very lucky to have these guys and be able to reintroduce the bunch for future breeding if all goes according to plan.

Jet is still getting better and is showing signs that his URI, is getting better from the one shot of Baytril (all else failed: Fortaz, Amikacin), and is not weezing or gurgling or gaping as of last night and today. We took a culture of his throat and determined that the bacteria affecting Jet, were all resistant to the aforementioned drugs. Go figure! The one drug that we and mostly, I, were trying to avoid was the one drug that was having any affect in clinical invitro trials. At any rate, I think he's finally going to make a full recovery as a result. I gave him a one shot bolus of the Baytril (injectable), and the rest will be followed with an oral application of the med. I decided to go the parenteral route for fear that he would get worse, over the weekend without it; as the oral version was not immediately available and had to be special ordered. I heard and read good things about Tylan (Tylosin), and I think that I will order that for the future and keep it at the ready just in case. I had several females all come down with URI, this winter and treated them variously, with either just increased heat, or in one case, Amikacin and no increased heat (normal temps) succesfully. However, Jet's case was special as he had a couple of resistant strains of bacteria.

So what ever happended to the babies pictured in the photo?
Alright, enough rambling. Thanks for the kudos and good luck to you too with future breeding of the Blacks.

Hey J,
Thanks! I just couldn't part with this bunch. I had already made up my mind that I would be keeping 4 out of the eight when they were first laid, and thought that I would have at least 6-8 hatch. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case and did get the 4 that I had already made up my mind about, which was a good thing though. So things on that end worked-out! They are so beautiful and so small. They are still in the incubator staying warm till their rack is set-up sometime, Tuesday, all snuggly warm. Just adding the heat (Flexwatt). Otherwise, they are doing well.
Thanks Jody!

googo151 Feb 05, 2005 11:23 PM

Hey Kara,
Thanks! I had already done that. They are snug as a bug, and temps have been dropped to normal standards for safety and other concerns (digestive) etc. Keep you posted.
