Meet my new baby "Tipsy"

Lyn Feb 05, 2005 11:42 AM

I heard that a local breeder was giving away baby dragons that had been left together too long and had suffered missing toes/legs/tails as a result. I hope a lesson was learned and the situation will not be repeated in the future. I went to see the babies and would have loved to have taken them all, but realistically I could only take one. I asked her to pick out the one she thought was in the worst shape. She handed me a little baby that was missing her front right leg, part of her tail, and almost all of the toes off of her remaining 3 feet. She currently has a total of 5 toes. But one is not looking very good and I fear she will soon be down to just 4 toes.

She gets along very good right now. Not sure how she'll do once she gets bigger and heavier. She is eating and drinking. She sometimes tries to bite me when I reach into the enclosure but you can't blame her. In the past things coming at her have eaten bits of her, so she's bound to be shy. Once I pick her up she's fine and does not bite.

She loves her crickets and is doing good with her greens for a baby. She drinks water from my finger tip. She's a great little Beardie. Here are some pictures of my precious Tipsy.

You would be superprized how resiliant these little guys are. My friend has a beardie with no front feet and only a nub of a tail, and she gets along fine with a little accomadation (wider, lower basking spots so she doesnt have to climb) Indy is now 3 years old, fat happy, and looking to live many more!

Good luck with your new baby!

I am constantly amazed at man's cruelty towards animals. Thanks for rescuing the one you did. Good luck.
