Collard shuts eyes when basking

cobbweb Feb 05, 2005 04:16 PM

I took my collard out of the fridge 2 weeks ago. She had been in there about a month and a half. She is wild caught and I have had her since last summer. Now when she is basking she shuts her eyes every once in a while. She is getting a little skinny and I can't get her to eat. I,ve got her under a T-rex mercury vapor bulb which doesnt really heat her cage that well. She seems to move around a lot though.

in the tank, 100 - 105 basking spot and high 80's to 90 for the REST of the tank.

Make sure shes hydrated, give her water with a dropper.

And as far as her eyes, if she continues to keep them closed, or they appear sandy looking or glued shut, it would indicate possible respiratory infection.

Keep a watch on her as far as that. Sometimes it takes a while after brumation for them to eat well. But if shes wc and losing ALOT of weight, I would try real hard to get her to eat.

Was she eating well after you caught her last summer? Or has she always had a lack of appetite?

I put a heat pad under her cage yesterday and the cage is about 98 degrees. Ever since I caught her its been hard to get her to eat. I tryed to put some weight on her before she brumated. I took her out of the fridge cause she was losing quite a bit of weight. If she is sick, will I have to have a permit to take her to the vet. Im pretty sure here in Kansas your supposed to have permits for native species.

When her eyes are actually open, do they look clear? Or is the third eyelid appear to be sticking or does it look like something is in the eye?
