S/he is 17 inches long. I need to know the sex because s/he is housed with a male. And we all know what happens when there are two males. Thanks

Looks male to me. The body shape and the bright orange coloring under the armpits suggets male.

Looks like my smallest female. For this week only you can see my 3 CWD on the Graceful Dragons forum. Link below. Within the next 60 days you should definitely know if it's male. Avanyu changed practically overnight. For about a month I thought Drago AND Avanyu were males, but Drago never transformed as Avanyu did.

I don't know about "transforming" my females always looked like this from the time they were very small.

LOL It was the male who "transformed". But I have 2 females who are totally different from one another. Drago has small spikes that run down her back (as in your picture and in the original picture posted with the question). When I got my other 2 dragons, one had small spikes on their back and the other was (and still is very smooth). At first (about 14 months) I thought I had 2 males and a female. because of Drago's spikes, but after Avanyu started to rapidly develop his "male" characteristics I realized that Drago was a female, just very different from Tripod. I just meant to imply that once the males begin to develop there is really no doubt as to their sex, and that it happens rather rapidly. Avanyu doubled in size and shed about every month or so during this period. He still remains in an almost constant state of shed and continues to grow about an inch per month. BTW, your little guy is precious!

Definately looks like a male from how his spikes are developing too. Check for pores near its vent later. May I ask why his mouth is open?

I Would say that the crest on the back of the neck, rather then the spikes, shows that this probably a male. At that size it can be hard to tell. He's probably getting to be about the size that another male will take notice of him. Generally adult males are tolerant of immature males, but once they reach a certain size, all former freindships are over!

Well here is a picture of the pores.
My big dragon doesn't seem to have much back spikes, s/he just has a nice crest and is much larger then the small one. It is around 20".

I agree, if you take a picture of the male and female side by side concentrating on the heads that will cinch it.
