vision vs boaphile vs barr's vs animal plastics

bigcountry1 Feb 05, 2005 07:13 PM

I have four red bloods. I have my eye on the boaphiles and barrs, it seems to me that these two are the best bang for the buck, even though i don't like the 12" height, but should be ok for a blood.

I know each has their own qualities. but i am really torn on this issue. I can get boaphie five stack and pedastol for 1029 shipped, but i can get five barr's 900, and i am 'close' enought to pick up. the barr's have double door's and dividers, which are super conveinent.

Any ideas are appreciated

I have a 2 visions and the animal plastic. THe visions are harder to heat and harder to keep the humidity up, but cleaning is easy. I guess if you have the cages in a room that has a good ambient temp then your ok. The animal plastic cage holds humidity awsome, and heat good, and its easy to clean. THe only thing that I liked better about vision is the doors, when feeding, because my burm is in the AP cage and the doors I have to open instead of just slide. Thats just my thoughts. Oh ya and visions do bow a little. And most people I talk to tell me to stay away from visions.

Too much humidity is the best way in the world to give your boids respiratory diseases. Trapping humidity in the cage along with the pungent aroma of the boid's fecal material is the quickest way in the world to kill a snake.

I have 56 vision cages, and they are all ventilated in a way that helps inhibit disease in my boids. I haven't had a respiratory problem in 3 years and I have more boids than most.

Vision put the vents in for a reason. If you are foolish enough to want to keep your boid cages humid, just order your visions with no vents and save 20 bucks a cage. Of course, you are gonna need those extra twenties when you have to buy antibiotics for your boas.

Visions if you leave the vent open go to 40 percent humidity and that causes problems as well, not eating and infection. I am not saying to keep humidity up at 90 percent but you need at least 50 60 and have to close the vents for that. I am glad that you have not had probelms for 3 years but it also depends on what he is putting in there.

Too little humidity is another good way to harm your boids. Trapping humidity in a cage is a viable option for someone who can’t raise their room’s ambient humidity to the appropriate levels. If the pungent aroma of fecal material is a problem… CLEAN YOUR CAGE!

What ever the case, one really needs to consider what kind of animal is going into the cage. I have seen far too many animals like Brazilian Rainbow Boas suffering from lack of humidity than I care to talk about. Mark11, you seem to have a strong opinion about ventilation, which I think stems from good intentions, but comes across as rude. I’m sure you are smart enough to realize that different animals have different environmental requirement, like Uromastyx vs Rainbow Boas.

Any update on Visionariums?

BobS Feb 08, 2005 01:08 PM

Not to get in the middle of something. But I think the one post was trying to point out that SOME ventilation is important to off set stale air that is too good a breeding ground for all sorts of things. As far as cleaning the cages, we all work out of the house for the most part and whether the animal dumps in the morn, noon or whatever its a LONG time to wait for a clean cage even when we try to take immaculate care of our charges.
It's a balance we all try to juggle. Sometimes a bigger cage is a solution so the animal has options. Sometimes a little more ventilation.

Imagine getting locked overnite in a hot fast food restruant restroom after they mop up and the fans broken.EWWWW!

Hope I Haven't stepped on a long term feud or something lol

markficcola Feb 08, 2005 01:19 PM

Hey BobS, no feud here. I think we were just making two valid points about ventilation. I agree with Mark11 that ventilation is important; I just wanted point out that exact ventilation needs are subjective to each situation. I’m sure he feels about the same.
