soft eggs

twiztednailz Feb 05, 2005 08:31 PM

One of my SHTCT females just laid two eggs a couple days ago. I think she was a virgin before this so these eggs are probaby not fertile. Anyone know how tell if they are fertile or not? I did the 'candle' test and noticed that the top of the eggs is red and the bottom is clear. Also, these eggs are extremely soft. I am afraid to touch them too much or they will surely break. Should they harden in time? I have them in a hovabator just in case at 80 degrees as I am trying for females.

infertile: soft, yellowish, feels like a have full water balloon

Fertile: solid white, feels like a stale marshmallow

if they are freshly laid, they will be soft, after about 10-15 mins they would harden, sounds like you have 2 infertile eggs

hello

as far as fertile or infertile I have had three babies hatch from yellow or very off white eggs they were soft not water ballon soft but still soft. I thought for sure they were duds but kept them in the incubator anyway well 50 days later hatchlings were crawling around my incubator. Now I'm not saying that your eggs are or are not fertle but keep them in the incubator until they go bad or collaps.
Good Luck and Happy Herping

p.s. Dan I want one of those Babies, whats the price going to be E MAIL ME. talk to you soon
