Heating Help

sudzny Feb 05, 2005 11:14 PM

I'm setting up a new tank for a soon to be purchased beardie and I'm having trouble getting the temps up. I have a 50watt zoomed basking bulb for the basking spot, and that gets up in the 100 range, but the cool side wont go much over 75. I tried adding a UTH to no avail. Any suggestions on how I can reaise the temp in the cool side slightly without getting the basking spot too hot?

Thanks.

what are you using as a substrate?

What size tank is it? Just for further reference, you dont need those fancy shmancy bulbs from the pet store - a regular bulb would do (usually 60-75 watt for smaller cages). Make sure the basking spot is about 105-110 degrees, so you could still try a higher wattage bulb and maybe raise the ambient temp. in the process. 75 degrees is okay for the cooler side, but 80 would be good. I would go ahead and put the UTH on there and see what it does overnight. Sometimes it takes a little bit.

Good Luck

It's a 20L with Washed/sifted playsand as the substrate.
