Shedding probs

fozz Feb 06, 2005 03:12 AM

I have a female Leo Gecko approx 8yrs old and just lately shes having some problems shedding which leaves her with a skin mask that often prevents her from opening her eyes , whats likely to be the cause of this and what can I do to help her as she cannot feed properly at the moment. I have been bathing the eyes with warm water and moistening the dry skin with olive oil but its real stubborn this time

do you have a humid hide for it? i had this problem when i first got mine. the former owners didnt have a moist hide for them to shed in and there was thick old shed on the males face. i gave them a moist hide to shed in and a week later it fell off on its own. i tried soaking it, using a q-tip, nothing worked except a little time and somewhere for him to get it off himself.

you can use a large butter tub or what I do is go to the dollar store and get a tupperware type container that is big enough for the leo to fit in and turn around in.I like to use damp spagnum moss in mine,if you use moss then change it ever couple of weeks. You can also use damp paper towels but they need to be changed ever couple of days.Whatever you use make sure it is always damp and keep it on the warm side of the tank.

also, I think mineral oil is bad to get in her eyes.
