You commented on a photo of mine but I was late to find the message...

It's possible that she has some Major bloodline. I don't have total history on her but I do know that she came from Alabama, very possibly southern geography where Major is abundant.

Another female I have also came from the same region and has similar coloration and lack of detailed markings.

Neither has great flaring of the marginals but the other female which I will upload separately does have a more elongated oval carapace. (Click link below for a carapace shot)

Butter is high domed and typical Eastern structure. Perhaps they both have some Major blood but not direct parents.

Cheers and thanks for inquiring.

Grace has markings that are similar to Major too and an elongated shell but she is only 5.25" and has shown signs of slowed growth.

Thanks QTKitty. They are very personable girls. The darker one seems to be a favorite with the male, Peepers.

you have lots of terrapene?
what's your opinion about indoor enclosures for them?
i'll leave it at that except to say that i have had many both in and out and i know the prevailing "wisdom" i am just curious as to what you think

I've never really kept them inside even when I was a little one, except for the very young turtles and the sick or overwintered. I've seen how lethargic they can become when housed indoors after a period of time. Outdoors they develop a cycle with the sun and weather.

Climate permitting, they thrive outdoors.

Here's a gaggle of my turtles taking a soak.

why I took this photo... I'm constantly amazed by the diversity in box turtles. There are a couple wood turtles in the mix in that shot too

Thanks.
