egyptian uro pellet food?

till Jul 06, 2003 06:22 PM

hi, i have an egyptian uro (11-12", probably male)named buddy. i've had him for almost a year. i was wondering if i could feed him commercial pelleted iguana or tortoise food. he can only eat food low in moisture or he'll have runny stool and walk through it getting it all over the cage & himself. i can't feed him collard & cale and stuff. since i live in arizona there are seasonally available native plants he can eat. the staple of his diet is hibiscus flowers and leaves. in the winter fresh food is hard to come by, so i was wondering if i could feed him commercial foods, or a mixture of diffrent kinds. what moisture, protein, etc content should the food have. can i also feed him dry alfalfa like the kind available for rodents? right now he's in a 60 gallon tank. i want to buy him a vision cage. does sand get kicked in the door tracks alot? how big? since they usually max out at abouit 20 inches, i thought mabe the 36"x28" might be big enough. otherwise i would get the 48"x28". any advice????????? thank you for you help.

hi, I can help you out a little maybe, for dry food i feed iguana pellets mixed with beans, mostly lentils but also some others that i can't remember the names for. As for the Vision cage i can tell you from experience with them! I have a 36"x28"x18" and it is nice, right now i only have one saharan uro in it but i am hopeing to set up a breeding trio in it, so yes it is rather large, as for the egyptian uros, i think it would be ok...but if you want it to have more room then go for the 48" one. Yes the sand does get stuck in the tracks, that is the downfall, but thats from when he glass dances. Good Luck!
