I have asked this question in the past, and ya know what, it depends on the snake. My burm as a baby was jumpy never bite until I messed up when she was on my arm and dropped my hand fast. I bought a super tiger a few months ago who has been docile ever since I got him. I was told that super tigers and tigers and dwarfs have good dispositions for retics. And Burms well it depends on who you get it from and how often you handle it.
My retic is alot more alert in the cage and out of the cage, my burm just kinda sits there but my retic is always on the move checking things out, both are aggressive in the cage until you touch them with the hook. I am new to retics and not an expert by any means on burms either but these are the diff I noticed.
Some people will tell you that they will not deal with retics and some will tell you the other way around.

Retics are much more active and smarter tend to bite more, However I have two retics and haven't ever been bite by either. If you want a tame retic just get a captive born and captive bred and you will be fine. I haven't seen a mean burm in a long time, but this doesn't mean they don't exist. There both about the same. Don't buy one because its tamer, Look at other factors, and if this is your first snake, Id say pick the burm.

In my opinion Burms are much easier to work with on a general basis. However, I personally believe that it depends on how the animal is socialized. Retics seem to have a stronger feeding response than Burms, Not saying that burms wont tag you good if you flub up. In my opinion Burms are better first large constrictors. But get the one you want. Don't use a large constrictor as a stepping stone, primarily because they are large and live a long time. Unless you have room for both large constrictors, I would advise, getting the one you want and learn as much as you can possibly learn about them before the purchase. If you know somebody who owns one, ask to handle theirs from time to time. Hope this helps.
