burning

mkurgan Jul 06, 2003 06:25 PM

i am setting up my dragon cage today. when i turned on the basking light(150 watts) i smelled a sort of burning. i noticed that the bulbs comes down further than the end of the dome fizture and the actual bulb touches the screen top. is this okay for the bulb to directly touch the screen? (my fixture can take 150 watts)

would a 100 watt bulb be smaller and therefore i can put 2 fixtures and 2 basking bulbs?

If you smell burning, it's not safe. Are you monitoring the temps as well? You may be able to find a shorter neck bulb, as i've purchased 120s that came farhter out then the 150s I have now.

i am correct in just resting the dome fixture right on top of the screen right?

do you think that it would work if i cut a hole in my screen just where the bulb is, the fixture would then still rest on the screen. the beardies could never get high enough to touch the bulb.

sorry but also what kind of basking bulbs does everybody use?

lumiran chromalux basking bulbs, i like em, never had any problems with them. I use them in ceramic fixtures, the ceramic deep dome fixtures can handle a longer bulb also higher wattage
