brushing the algae of scutes?

turtlegyrl Feb 06, 2005 03:14 PM

Hello all!
My turtles have begun to build up algae around their scutes. I have been told to gently brush it off with a toothbrush. However, when I do this, the algae doesn't come off, and I am afraid of brushing too hard. Any suggestions? Thanks ;o)

Use hydrogen peroxide, no brushing is needed, works like a charm. Algae will be killed and eventually falls off...

A light brushing should be fine. If only cleaning the shell, and the turtle is healthy, then you don't need to worry about scrubbing to hard.
If algae is becoming a problem I would reassess your filtration and water quality.
Have fun with your turtle
