Sad story...

beardielover13 Feb 06, 2005 03:45 PM

I was talking to my friend and he asked me how my dragons were doing, I hadn't talked to him in quite a while and i told him that Frosty had died a few months ago. My other friend came over and said, "Oh, how sad." He said that his neighbor had some that were like 3 inches long and his neighbor didn't believed they could get 24 inches long. He also said that he had them in a fish bowl. Isn't that just horrible. I feel so bad for the little guys because they probably won't live for long because I'm guessing that they don't have any UV lights. I can't do anything though because at the current time, I am expecting eggs from my female and can't get anymore room until I know how many to expect in 3 months. What do you guys think I should do? Thanks.

Could you have your friend give their neighbor some advice on how to care of the dragons? I'm not sure how they can do this without coming off like a smart-a$$, but The person needs to be told that there are a few very important factors in keeping them, which I'm sure you know (size of enclosure, uvb lights, temp., proper diet, etc.). If it's the little round fish bowl like I am picturing, they're not going to make it long. If he has any heat source near it, he's probably going to cook them.

search on google, print out some caresheets on beardies, get some PICTURES of fully grown beardies next to baby beardies, and give them to this person to show him just how big they get, and just how much work they need to get set up. Also give them the web site to your local reptile rescue center if you have one, search on google, there's a few reptile rescue organizations that deal with people who realised that they can't keep their pet for one reason or another. This way you'll provide them with all the information they'll need to keep them, as well as all the information that they'll need if they suddenly realise that they can't provide that. And if you feel necessary, and depending on your local laws, you might be able to point out that that's animal cruelty, and the beardies can be taken away unless propper living conditions are given. Fish bowls are good for keeping 2 things... meal worms, and bettas... and even then, bettas do better in tanks, fish bowls are just generaly all around useless...

I agree, print out some really good beardie information, get some pictures of beardies at different sizes, and give the info to the b*stard with the beardies in a fish bowl. Keep an eye on things and if he doesnt cahnge his ways call the humane society.
