Uroplatus shedding...anyone ever see this?

viper69 Feb 06, 2005 06:34 PM

My female always finds the most moist spot in the tank, and burries herself in the moss, to soften up her skin to shed...She is usually done w/the upper torso by the time I catch her doing this...and is getting her lower half, legs/tail taken care of,

Anyone seen this in their species??

There have been few times I have looked in on one of my breeding female henks and noticed her slightly buried under moist moss. The first couple times I saw this, I initially thought they were laying, but only later, after further inspection, I found there were no eggs there. One possibility that I hadn’t ruled out in my head was that this was for added moisture during a shed.

My male dose that from time to time and I thought it was just him hiding and hunting for crickets. It makes more sence now that you mention it with shedding.
