New Uroplatus, thanks Neil

Ptindy Feb 06, 2005 08:55 PM

Hey everyone, after talking with Neil and picking out animals I finally got my Uroplatus this past week. The animals are so much more beautiful then in the pictures I received from Neil, I'm very pleased with them.

Here is a tailless female Phantasticus I got from Neil, she's very dark in coloration and so small compared to the others, I have her in her own kritter keeper until she's ready to eat the same size crickets as the other two I got. I had to brighten up the pic a bit with photoshop so you could see her better.

Here is my other female phantasticus, she's very clean and is the largest of the three by far.

Here is a picture upon arrival.

Here is my male, he has a wicked tail. I couldn't get a good picture of him so you will have to settle with the one I snapped when they arrived here on Wednesday. He's constantly checking out the isopods in the vivarium.

Here is the same male but Neil took this picture.

Here is my tailless hopefully female sikorae sikorae I received, I had to invert the pic because she was creeping underneath her stick. I love these mossys.

Here's the tailless hopefully male, same size as the female. They encountered a mean hatchling in their earlier days.

Here is my female Lineatus I received for my adult male, she's a lot smaller then he and very red all the time.

Here is my male I had before the shipment I posted pics of earlier.

I hope you enjoyed the pics. I hope to breed these guys someday down the road. I love this genus, it's quite the treasure. I don't know why more people in Canada aren't working with these guys. US as well for the matter. They are very fascinating. One more thing, anyone have any tips for viewing these guys at night? I have a night glo exo-terra bulb I walk around with so I don't disturb them but it gets hot and starts to burn haha. Thanks again.

Mike

neil meister from canada. he wrote the article on uroplatus ( phantasticus) in reptiles magazine last year. usually has geckos readily but as umop apsdn said earlier, probably won't ship to U.S. due to time delays and expense. check the geckos classifieds for canada.

Actually, I can ship to the US, but it gets pricy for the customer unless they can clear customs and USFWS themselves at a designated port of entry. I now have an account with a US airline that should allow me to ship to more places than before. I do need a little extra time for CITES animals (i.e. all Uroplatus), but it should be days, not weeks.
