Hey guys,
Are there any differences between a Venezuelan Redfoot, and a normal one? Thanks! Brooks

Well, it is a complicated question. There are no 'recognized' subspecies of G. carbonaria. But since they are found over an enormous geographical area there is natuarally some variation. The 'northern' types are all pretty much similar but knowing the exact country of origin is a nice bonus. But the Venezualan redfoots are not morpologically different from Colombian, Surinam or Guyana redfoots. There are some minor color differences but otherwise, they are the same animals.

One other minor difference is that Vzln's are almost certainly captive born as it is illegal to export them without permits and there is a thriving (5000 hatchlings per year) legal ranching operation in Venezuela.

When Mayday said a minor color difference that means the colors vary also.

See the "bloodline" in my Columbian breeders.. raised from 10/98 hatchlings.. eggs incubating now. This is the nicest of three..
