fleshy area between scutes?

fliehendesturme Feb 06, 2005 10:02 PM

i was looking at my mississippi mud yesterday and she seems to have excessively large fleshy areas between her scutes on her plastorn. It doesn't look irritated or raw, and i know that sometimes they do tend to have a fleshy area, but the space between scutes seems to be larger than i rememember it being. I was wondering if anyone could post a picture of what a normal plastorn looks like. Or, if this is abnormal and you know a cure, i'd really appreciate knowing. I've been putting neosporin on it. Thanks in advance!

Are you sure it is a Mississippi mud and not a stinkpot? They are somewhat similar.
But muds does have a smallish fleshy area on the plastron at the hinges. If it isn't infected or raw, leave it alone.

yup, i'm positive its a mud. It doesn't look like its raw, just fleshy. I can post a picture if that'd help.

I wouldn't worry. I am sure they are fine. Just keep an eye on those places and watch for obvious signs of infection. If there are none, it is probably just something you didn't notice before.
