Gecko Acting Strange, Need Advice

Triad Feb 07, 2005 08:24 AM

Well I have been feeding Kalypso as usual but she hasn't eaten as much as she does.

I put 7 wax worms in there one day (she won't eat mealworms or crickets during winter for some odd reason) and the next day I counted six. Turns out when I took out her humid hide to switch paper-towels the seventh one had gotten out and crawled under that.

The next day I put new worms in her tank and she ate all but 1 (there was about five or six I think).

I just cannot figure out why she is not eating that much. She is normally a very hardy eater.

She has a very fat tail and very fat armpits ( I think now the fats also being stored behind her legs, she's freakin huge, she's now 78 grams and counting). She's constantly gaining weight so she's not losing any.

Could it be that I moved my room around and that she needs time to adjust to being where she is?

might be. give a few days to adjust. Could also be that she is very unhealthily eating nothing but waxworms for an extended time period. Stop!

It is probably the move, a change in environment can be very stressfull for a leo. Give her a few days.

p.s has your dragon stopped behaving weird yet?

Hades is fine now thanks for asking. Although I do find him staring at me and the dog when we come in my room before I go to bed.

I think it is just the move that put both of them in bad moods for a couple days. She's eaten a few waxworms here and there. But not all at once.

I feed her at 10 pm like clockwork every night because she eats more then and since she's nocturnal it might help her instinct to hunt.

She will stop killing her crickets in about a month or two. Just during the winter she has this strange tendency to not eat crickets or mealworms and only eat if I offer her waxworms. Just during the winter is the only time that happens.

Actually some people only offer waxworms to their gecko. People say they are addictive but I haven't seen kalypso have any "withdrawl symptoms" (lol). She eats them during the winter, then druing spring summer and fall she's back on crickets and meals but during the winter she has this strange tendency to only kill the crickets in her terrarium.

It's not unhealthy either. I gut load them and make sure they have a lot of needed vitamins and nutrients in them.

I also have a little dish of calcium in there for her in case she wants any.
