fievel82 Feb 07, 2005 09:42 AM

hey this is my first post here. im looking to buy a bearded dragon. ive always like them but never got one. im not new to lzards at all i had a green iguana when i was younger that lived forever, and had two leos that just recently died (accident: heater broke while at work and temp dropped..sad)
what im asking is i want a baby, but wondering what age is the youngest i could get one and where should i be looking? i would prefer a breeder since i hate petstores. any help on where to get my first bearded and how old i should be looking for would be great.

thanks
mike

Definately go through a breeder. There are lots of breeders right here on this website who all have wonderful practices and would be more than happy to work with you on your first purchase.

As far as age, i would get one that is around 4months old, these guys are hardier than your newly hatched animals, and is well started on a good diet when he comes to you. These animals can usually take the stress of shipping easier than a baby as well.

Make sure you set up the tank and gets all the temps set up properly before your baby arrives to ensure a smooth low-stress transition

Since you already have had reptiles you probably have a vet that is familiar with reptiles. Ask him for reputable breeders in your area. You can go pick out your own and get to know the breeder personally. If you don't have a good rep vet, find one and then go look for your beardies. Takes a little longer, but a lot less headaches in the end.
Research, research, research.
