Possible BUildup?

digiport Feb 07, 2005 10:33 AM

Ok, this is bothering me, the first time I thought it was skin. It's right around his nostril openings.
At first I thought it was shedding building up or peeling out. I flaked it off rather easily.
It's there again, he doesnt exhibit any signs of trouble breathing though. He's active as normal, the only time he has his mouth opening is when he has a seed in there from his substrate.
I recently saw the best stool Ive seen from him and it looked fine.

I will check again over my lunch and see what it looks like, any ideas out there though? I held him to see it closely and I couldnt tell if what I heard was him breathing or peeing all over my hand.He discharged something out of his rear, he clearly wasnt happy.

is it just white stuff? to keep from dehydrating they excrete salt through their noses. (your guy is not dehydrated, it is just an evolutionary characteristic) i do not know all the specifics of how it works but it is normal. all of my desert lizards do it.

Yes it's a white buildup. And I was even thinking of like a mineral type buildup even, so its reassuring that you told me that.

Should I worry about clearing it away? I broke it away before and, other than him disliking me touching him, it didnt hurt him or anything. It just looks bad is all, like it COULD be a problem, even though it isnt, apparently.

some people will take a moistened q-tip and rub it away. i usually just leave it alone unless it is sticking out of the nosehole completely. then i will wipe it away, mostly to keep me from getting it on my lips when i give them kisses, ha ha

Note quite as noticable, my Uro is much smaller. But yes, and what a fitting name, snalt. It wasnt as noticable on mine either, just because he isnt as black. He's very young. That's what worried me, is it just sort of came back and I didnt see it. Thanks for that picture, now I can sleep at night.
