Thanks for the reality body slam....
It's a tragic reality that all the indegenous rain forest inhabitants face. We can all cry foul for the rampant destruction of rain forest, but are we any better here? Every urban area in the US is spreading. If we were faced with the challenge of providing for a growing community while living next to rain forest that doesn't support; cattle, residence, etc. Unfortunately, many of us would be forced to do what these people are doing. The ILLEGAL pillage of the rain forest I don't condone whatsoever. It's hard to argue w/ people when we are doing the same thing in our own country...

have have less than 1/10th of 1% of our natural prairie left. we've turned it into farm land and are ruining the rich fertile soils by not practicing the correct methods of farming. atleast in iowa wetlands and prairie are now on the rise. with many different types of 50-75% funding options available to help reimburse/pay to convert land people are actually considering it worth their time for the enjoyment they'll get out of the land. i just wish everyone would feel the way that i do about it ( and many of you i'm sure too) and make other people realize the benefit of their natural heritage and wildlife.
right now i'm researching madagascar and it sounds like the president ( of madagascar )is working to preserve the land with some success. if i find out anything interesting i'll let you know.

True that... Drive any Midwest route and you'll see cultivation galore... Or many of you have probably seen the land from an airplane above... The landscape is patches of squares and circles... A VERY small percentage of what was once natural here in the US is long gone... Bison roamed the plains, natural tall grass prairie wasn't suffocated by introduced weeds, rivers weren't dammed, ect... A mountain lion was spotted in the middle of Omaha, NE for God's sake, historically an area it would have staked claim to naturally... Instead of a celebration of the lions return, it was shot... In a similar local story, one was shot dead while sleeping in a tree… God for bid it gets little Suzy’s toy poodle… Uuuughh… Sad reality of the world we live in…

of what God created. Its UGLY what man does at times.

I was just talking about this very thing with my husband one day while driving last week.

In our area of NJ, there used to be much wooded land. Now strip malls and large elegant homes, stores.... you know the story.

Anyway as more buildings go up and more woods cleared, more little creatures are seen squashed weekly in our streets. squirrels, racoons, woodchucks, deer, fox, its a darn shame.

They leave a small patch of woods along a major highway, and wonder why animals run out, hah, ought to be ashamed. It just sickens me.

well last thing i heard about madagascar is that it was still pretty war-torn following som dispute over elections. not that this directly effects the deforestation rate, but it sure as hell cant make that problem any easier to deal with.

and remember, we're in the middle of the world's 3rd mass extinction thanks to no one other than ourselves. :
