Are there any small active snakes that you actually see much? I imagine they mostly hide. Was interested in something for a 30 inch long tank so it has plenty of room but not something that mostly hides.
Thanks.

A 30 inch long tank can hold many snakes, especially the smaller snakes. Alot of them do hide often, but there are plenty of times during the day where I can walk into my snake room and my ringnecks will be cruising their tanks looking for food. If you really wanted something you could see often, and something that will readily eat and be a good captive, get a garter snake. They are quite nice, easy captives, easy to breed, and come in more colors than the rainbow.

Thats true but garters get to big for what I wanted . A small snake that had plenty of room in that size tank and I could make it natural but easy to clean .
Just soil plastic plants, driftwood and some flat rocks. Garters get to 4 feet some maybe more and girth so tho active not small by my standards.
I am looking along 2 feet mark. The ringnecks are on my "list" but I wasnt sure if active thought they would mainly hide.
A male eastern garter snake will reach about 24", 2 feet. They are small....they have nice colors...they are good captives...and better than ringnecks if you are a beginner! The size tank you have is really too big for any "small snake", they would just get "lost" in it and fail as captives.

I have been reading the posts here and I noticed you mentioned that before to someone. I am new to snakes as you can tell lol but why is a tank that is to big bad for small snakes?
Because they get lost in it, it will be more difficult for them to find prey items, they like to be in tight places, and a tank that is a million times larger than them, isn't going to make them feel that way.
