looks nice and healthy. good work.

OMG... A pied mossy... did I go into a coma and let 30 years pass me by?... Are they making bioluminescent leopard geckos then?... Gimme a break...

Way to try and pioneer the hypomelanisticcalifraglisic trend...

Good looking animal though...

...Ben's version of "subtlety"
Wish you the best of luck breeding, of course, asking around I'm not sure anybody is ready to start isolating traits and classifying Uros w/ the usual exotic monocher bs. Even the mythical Neil Meister is content w/ simply getting successful clutches to mature. The henks and sikorae are the undisputed "heartiest", but they aren't your mammmas hypo-homoflamin crested...keep us posted, good luck

She is a good lookin mossy BTW, even if she is pied

LEah Feb 08, 2005 08:40 AM

The "pied" trend is quite possibly one of the very best marketing ploys I have ever seen... people new to the species dont have a clue that a good 50% of them look like that, and if you know anything about snakes, pied is a big deal- How can they be truly pied, when all of them with the white pattern have it in the same spot, and most are female? Occurring in both henkeli and sikorae- I wouldnt think a true "pied" would be able to change the color either...

Regardless, I think the consensus is this pattern is called clouded in Uroplatus...

I have a "pied" hatchling from this year, it's $7,500 dollars if anyone wants it... Well its not truely "pied" since the white areas aren't completely lacking pigment, but I would say that it's 90% "pied." These geckos have such a high hatch rate that I am sure I'll have a truely "pied" gecko by next year... That one will be $10,000... I am accepting deposits now!... Uuuugh...

Nice job with the photo too bad it is not an albino. You know there is a much better program for that its called Photo Shop. Try that next time and you can take out the blur around the edges.

Good luck with it.

flamedcrestie Feb 09, 2005 09:52 AM

i think it was a joke. i thought it was funny. definately needed to be a brighter white also for it to look like an albino.

GeckoMike Feb 13, 2005 08:43 AM

You know now that I look at the post I might have come across as rude. I was kinda making suggestion on a better program to use for photo editing. In sted of a brighter white try a pink patern or some blue in the parttern. Good luck!

Rhacophile Feb 09, 2005 06:55 PM

I have to say you people are pretty funny. I really enjoyed all of the helpfull info you posted oh wait that must of been a differnt post, that's right this was the post where a bunch of smart @$$'s made fun of me, LMAO. No but really I did get a good laugh at my own expence. I just thought that's what you called a "clouded?" mossy. I knew it wasn't pied in the true since of the word, I was just misinformed. Well I guess I'll be more careful when I post in this forum in the future.
Thanks, Eli BadAssHerp

Lol... Glad you took it light heartedly…

To me at least, trying to start the “high-end” and “designer” craze with leaf-tails is a joke… And I know now that you weren’t intending to do that…

Not that breeding these things is anything like Whoboy breeding Pam Anderson (impossible), but the clutch size isn’t large and the mortality rate is high… It will take years for these types of projects to develop…

However, I have a herp “mentor” who remembers a time when beardies were $20,000 a pair, now there is morphs that freakin’ glow under a black light! (Not really, but you get my point)…

The more success people have in breeding these things, the more odds increase that something extraordinary will pop up... But Leah is right in saying that this type of coloration is not uncommon; I have a number of henks that have a “clouded” pattern… But not to discredit the beauty of your specimen, clouding to that degree is less common per say…

Even from multiple breeding pairs, I certainly haven’t produced enough babies to draw assumptions about how the parents traits are expressed in their progeny… Perhaps someone has noticed a correlation in traits?

If you are I have to say you produce some nice animals. As far as the mossy's go I don't think it absurd to try and isolate some traits and at least get say a 50% hatch rate showing them. Regardless I will attempt to get a sizable collection going and start breeding them asap.
Oh by the way is the crested in this pic a female? If so please arrange a trade or a sale with me I have a male that would be perfect for her? Please email me at BadAssHerps@hotmail.com or just post a reply. Please work with me on this one.

The animal in the picture is a male and it is not for sale.

Also, I don't mind linking to our pics but in the future please don't download them and load them onto another gallery. And if you could please remove it from the Kingsnake gallery I would appreciate it. thanks

Jason,
I'm sorry man I didn't think you would mind. But rest assured I will delete the picture right now. That's a bummer it's a male, but it's not like you would have sold it anyway. Great leaftails by the way.

No problem. I appreciate it.

thanks for the compliments on the leaftails. We have a very nice group and are both pretty happy with it.

Sorry to all you natural brunettes, but one already won the lottery and has the honor of being Mrs. Whoboy.
