Truths about UVB *Important*

BryanR. Feb 07, 2005 04:52 PM

There have been many questions about UVB and what kind of lighting we should use. I found a great website that I hope will clarify most of your questions. Truth is, no artificial lighting that you can by for your pet will compare to real sunlight. However there are some lights that work better than others. This website has charts for different types of lights and how much UVB they produce at different distances. As you can see none of the bulbs get anywhere close to real sunlight.

Heres another page that has some info about UVB bulbs also:

For those interested in the UVB output of various commercially available reptile bulbs and interesting dialogue about the UVB requirements and ranges of benefcial UVB for reptiles please try this site. You do not need to have a UVB meter to join and there is quite a bit of excellent information in the "files' section.

Great site. I hold to my contention that artifical sources of UVB are best considered as additional enhancements to a reptiles environment and not relied upon for D3 synthesis.
