I live in an apartment where the temp. is never constant. I have a tronic heater where the temp in the tank is at 84. In 2001, I adopted 2 turtles from a shelter 1 male res(9 yrs) and a female painted (8 yrs) and up until a few months ago they have been the gotten along great. They love to sit up and bask together and there have been no problems between them. Recently the male has been doing the mating dance constantly and biting at her shell and any limb he can get a hold of. Even when she is up on the basking dock he goes up there just to knock her down to continue trying to mate with her. I 've seen the mating dance from him every once in a while but now it's to the point where I believe he's biting out of frustation. She wants nothing to do with him mating wise and is probably putting a great deal of stress on her. We always have a rock in there and she spends a lot of her time hiding from him. Her appetite although she is still eating has been less in the past few months. She is still at normal weight but I am concerned that we might have to seperate them. In don't want to seperate them and are looking for some advice to curve his ongoing mating problem.
