Leo with hurt tail, Need advice !!

gemdreamer Feb 08, 2005 01:21 AM

I have two male Leos and they are side by side in different tubs, yesterday i found one was missing and i found him on the floor of the reptile room with a hurt tail. It looks as if someone took a potatoe peeler and just peeled his skin almost all the way around the middle of his tail, his skin is kinda dangling, but shriveled up.. anyow the tail itself is not broken at all..

today when i went in there to check and clean cages, i took the other male out and it looked at him and it looked like he had blood on his snout, so ive come to belive that somehow the male with the hurt tail got out of his tub and into the other one with the other male and they fought.

just so you know i did put the tops on both tubs, i didnt think they could get out, so much for my thinking.

But my question is should i soak him and put something on his tail so it doesnt get infected? or should i just leave it be?

Put neosporin on the tail a couple times a day and watch closely for infection

I agree with altered. Clean it out and give him a soak and then keep neosporin on it. It sounds pretty nasty so please take him to the vet if there are ANY signs that it's getting infected or causing him not to eat or anything. And remember to keep those lids on .
