Just rescued a 4 yr old leo

vampiresaru Feb 08, 2005 09:07 AM

Hello everyone I just got my first leo from someone who was hours away from "getting rid" of her for a new lizard. I was able to get the 10 gallon aquarium with the gecko but everything else was stripped from it except for the substrate that was currently in there. The room I have her in now has a temp around 68 degrees so I bought both a heat lamp (with a 65 watt red lamp) and a heat pad for under the tank which is the same setup the old owner had.

With just the lamp on the temps are too cold for day time (80 on the hot end and 72 on the cool) the problem I am faced with though is with the heat pad on the temp of the substrate right above it gets to over 100 degrees (even hotter with the lamp on) so I have been manually regulating the temps whenever I can to try to keep her happy and safe. I am going to order a thermostat for the heatpad and was wondering if the Electronic BAH-100 from Big Apple Herp would be a decent one to get.

Actually you could just use the undertank heater to heat the tank. A 10 gal. tank heats up pretty quick and keeps its temp well, if you set the uth at 85-90 you should be set and your leo will also be able to thermoregulate at the same time. If you wan't, it probably isn't a bad idea to buy that thermostat just to keep temps safe.
