How deep will eggs be buried?

sebastian924 Feb 08, 2005 09:29 AM

I have a natural setup in my tank and house a pair of adult cresteds in there. On one end of the tank I layed out about an inch thick of moist sphagnum moss and put a hide cave over it that covers most to the moss. I saw some holes on that end that may have been my female digging around. I was wondering, how deep will the female bury her eggs? And what are some signs of pregnancy? Also, I may just be getting excited, I've only had the adult pair for about 2 months, when do you think they will start breeding? Thanks so much for your help!

i've found ones just barely buried, to ones that have been 2-3 inches below the surface. crickets also like to dig holes so if they're not very big and you have loose crickets that could be what that is from.females will almost always start digging in the substrate 1-3 days before laying.

yea, ive gotten a few false alarms from my females, then i find eggs later. my first clutch was probably a good 4 inches under though, she dug pretty deep. another clutch from a different female was probably 3 inches deep. it definitely takes some work finding eggs in naturalistic enclosures, just keep a close eye on you female and youll see where she digs.
