Shedding

razordance Feb 08, 2005 11:46 AM

Just wondering what's normal for a green ig as far as shedding goes. Ours (2 1/2 - 3 years) seems to be almost constantly shedding. as soon as he finishes, parts of him start to shed again, and he seems to be working through his body again and again. We've had him for about 4 months, and we don't think he was 100% properly cared for before. Could it be that he's going through a growth spurt now that he has more time free, or is this just the way they are? Also, is it normal for their eyes to water (not constantly, but fairly often)?

Shedding is a good sign that your iguana is healthy. And when they are young, it does seem like they are shedding all the time because they are growing at a faster rate than when they are older. Iguanas don't shed like snakes or a lot of other lizards in the sense that they don't shed all at once. If that was a picture of your iguana, it seems to be very healthy to me. No worries!

What do you mean by eyes watering? I don't think iguana's eyes do water. At least, I've never come across that. Unless you mean his eye looks glossy or something when it's open. You might want to get him checked out by a vet, just in case. If he wasn't cared for porperly before you got him, you might just want to get an overall health check up anyway.
