We have a friend who has to get rid of his iguana. It's a 5-6 year old female, and although I haven't seen her yet, I think that there's a good possibility that she's not a green iguana. I've been told that her head is much larger in proportion to her body than what I thought was normal for a female green. (Rhino maybe? I don't know that much about other ig species). Anyway, we were trying to decide whether it would be feasable for us to take her in. We have Ike, a green iguana male who's going on 3 years. We're currently working up plans for a full sized enclosure for him. We'd end up having to build one for her as well, since the guy is keeping the enclosure she's currently in. At this point we figure that we'd keep them in seperate enclosures, since I know they're not all that social, and if there is a species difference that would be a big thing as well. I suspect that there would be quite a few times when they would both be free at the same time, and the enclosures would probably be pretty close to each other, although not visible to each other. Can anyone give advice on whether this is a good idea or not? If it's not, we'd rather make sure Ike gets the care he needs, but this girl needs a home and we'd like to be able to see that she gets a good one. I should mention that she doesn't get handled a lot currently, but we're told she's only aggressive when she's in heat. We'd have no intentions of breeding them, even if she does turn out to be a green, since I don't know whether we could find homes for baby igs. Ike is very unaggressive, hasn't attacked either of us, and has only tail whipped the cats a few times, even then it seems like more of a warning. Can anyone give me any advice on whether we should be seriously considering this? Thanks
