Tx. Ratsnake... hypo?

SnakePool Jul 06, 2003 09:20 PM

This one was caught on the northern outskirts of Georgetown, Tx. I never put any thought on him, didn't really know exactly what it was since I have never seen a tx ratsnake. I posted his picture on another forum last year and was told it was a tx. rat. Now that I have seen a few and a few in the wild this one looks different. The black is more a purple color and he's a nice yelloiw/orange color. Hypo possibly? here'sa pic.

Nice looking snake, breeding trials could confirm if the snake was hypo or not.

Good luck.

From the pic it looks like a juvenile, but given your location
I'd say it's almost certainly a Texas rat snake. I have one that looks similar, about 3 feet long, but I'm in the intergrade zone (central OK) and I'm still not sure whether she's a Black/ Texas intergrade or a full Texas rat. I hope to post some pics
of her soon. michaelb
