This is a cage that I plan to house two smaller burms in. It is heated by lights instead of undertank but heat is where it is supposed to be as well as humidity. It has basking areas on top of hide and of course the hide itself. It has a divider in the middle that will be removed once either of the burm needs its own cage and another will be built. Glass windows are locked so no escaping and two doors were placed on the side so food can be droppd in with minimal interaction. Opions please.

Nice cage! What are the dimensions? It seems a bit small. Good for hatchling burms, but keep in mind they grow very quickly!
You better get to work on the next one!
The wood does'nt look as though it's sealed with anything.
Is it sealed? If not, you should seal it, and give it at least a couple of weeks to off gas.

its actually 7 ft by 2.5 ft. And its sealed with the polyurethane paint (mispelled)which was able to air out for a good month or two. Both snakes are around 5 ft but have a ton of room to stretch hehe. I am getting started on the second one, so Im way ahead of ya on that one hehe. Also I put vinyle tile pattern which is super easy to clean and doesnt let urine soak into the wood. The ventilation seems good and keeps humidity up pretty well.

How ya plan on heating that at night?
Looks like ya only got white lights.

toddbecker Feb 09, 2005 12:43 PM

that is the exact thing i was going to bring up jason. The major problem with utilizing lights as a heat source is that you then have no heat at night or you have no light cycle. Keep in mind that if you plan to breed you need to be able to manipulate both their heat and light cycles which will be impossible to do if you utilize only incandescent heat bulbs. i recommend using flourescent light and some other heat source such as a rhp or heat mat. Hope this helps a little, Todd

hehe i knew someone would mention that. I hadnt received the black bulbs yet when that pic was taken. There are both day and night lamps that are rheostat controlled as well as timed for a 24 hr cycle. So other than the lights does it look like this is a pretty suitable home?

Also...I dont plan to breed my snakes. There is really no need for more burms unless houses have been found and owners are compitent. I would not want to add to the problem of improper snake care. As it is, I feel that I can never do enough for my animals. I may not be an expert, but i feel that I can give them what they need and Ive been doing my best to do just that .

I think you;ve got it all figured out. Really nice job on the cage!
But with the lights...I would save your pennies, and invest in bellyheating,or an RHP...it'll save money on your electric bill over the long run.
Good luck with your burms.
