Cleaning a tank with a UTH....

MightyPython Feb 08, 2005 05:47 PM

I was wondering how some of you guys clean your tanks that have UTH's on them. I've read some of you clean your tanks with soap and water. How can this be done when you have a UTH stuck to the bottom? Are you just very careful that it doesn't get wet or does it matter as long as it's unplugged and completely dry before plugging it back in? Is there something on the market you can use where you don't have to rinse it, like an all in one cleaner? Thanks for any info.

I don't see how they would get wet if they were used as suggested.

You should never, ever put a UTH inside your tank. That's just a bad idea. Read the warnings that I'm sure are all over the packaging. ALWAYS put the UTH on the UNDERSIDE of your tank.

I never said I would put a UTH on the inside. You'd have to be a complete moron to do that. LoL I'm talking about having it underneath but water still possibly getting on it when cleaning the tank. Not on purpose, but just maybe it getting splashed accidentally when rinsing the tank. Would that harm the UTH? I figure to clean a tank and rinse it out you'd have to take it to a sink or tub to rinse it out so some water could possibly get underneath there. Or is there a better way to do that? Thanks.

Use a bleach and water mixture in a squirt bottle spray down the sides and bottom and wipe it off. Clean the water dish and hide and any other decor you have. Let it sit for a while (for the bleach to evaporate)then put the snake back in. You get a nice, clean disinfected tank = happy snake and no worries about your UTH.

I never took the adhesive off of my uth, I used some heat resistant electrical tape I got from my work that you can get from home depot for like $3 a roll, that way if you switch tanks you can put it onto the new tank and not have to worry about it sticking correctly. Dont know if this will help but it will help for future reference
thanks
