Snake Sneezing???

amoeba14 Feb 08, 2005 07:01 PM

When I was holding my 7 month old male ball python before, it seemed like he sneezed. He made a noise like he was sniffing or breathing out quickly. Similar noise to when a dog sniffs the ground. He did it twice and I put him back in his cage. He seems to be totally healthy, eating like a champ and active. What was the noise I heard? Could it be a respitory infection? I'm a little worried. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like he was hissing at you!

I have one that "pushes" air out a number of times a day and it is loud enough to hear across the room. It isn't hissing I have one that does that. I don't think it is really anything to worry about as this one doesn't have an RI. But maybe some others have thoughts on why they make this noise.

Yeah my adult male has never been sick (fingers crossed) and I have had him four years since he was a little 150 grammer. However, at least once a week he breathes out loud enough to startle me in the middle of the night. Kind of sounds like a sneeze. He does it more in the winter, so I think it has something to do with low humidity and itching of his nasal passages.
