Help ... this is terribly upsetting.

coyote9th Feb 08, 2005 08:25 PM

Hi ... about 2 weeks ago I joined a CWD with my other two who have been bonded for a year. The one I brought home, a large male who's very docile, had been treated very badly. The evidence was obvious because of the awful burn marks and bleeding snout he had. He's looking good, although my other two have decided to stop eating. It started, now that I think about it, the day he arrived.

The three of them are in a huge 6 foot made enclosure and should happy as can be. Can anyone give me advice regarding my two who have stopped eating? It's a bit heartbreaking and I'll have to decide to do something rather soon.

Any help would be appreciated!

I know its not scientific to put human feelings on to animals, but in this case it works. Imagine that You are locked in a house with a few roommates. The house is basically one large furnished room. And suddenly someone dumps a huge beat up looking thug on the couch. You may feel a little stressed. You might not want to go into the shower while he's hanging around, or feel comfortable sitting down to a meal. Of course eventually you'll get used to him, unless he's psycotic excon who keeps refering to you as "sweetie" then your just screwed. Anyway my point is no room is big enough if your locked in it with someone you don't like. Increasing the number of basking site, water and feeding locations, will help ease the tention, the less they have to share the better. Generally speaking two males are not going to get along unless one is submissive, and you can expect the submissive male to eat less, be miserable and live a short life.

It could be as rick gordon said, actually, its very likely because of that. Although if it continues longer than a month you could be facing parasites so keep an eye on them and if you feel the need to go to the vet, then do so.
