corn cob substrate? yes or no

firefighter2598 Feb 08, 2005 10:14 PM

I know this isn't a beardie question, but they aren't that helpful in the python forum. I found ground up corn cob at the local pet store. I have an arboreal jungle carpet python (6 ft long). Does anyone know if this stuff is suitable for substrate? Once again, thanks for all of your help.

personally i wouldnt use it. im sure its dusty and theres a chance your snake could ingest it while feeding. i have 2 common boas 1 ball python and 2 beardies,i use non adhesive shelf liner in all of their tanks. they cant eat it and it cleans up easy and you can get it at wal mart for between 3 and 10 bucks a roll depending on size.

Corn Cob molds very quickly when wet, considering you have a tropical python who will probably need to be sprayed, i would definately not use it unless you want to change it ocmpletely every day...
