HOW TO MATE?

theLC Feb 08, 2005 10:17 PM

I have 2 leos, now what do i do? Do i just drop them in together in the same cage or do i need to introduce them to each other before they will mate. How do I get them to mate?
thanks in advance.

Before you do anything.how old are they and what are their weights?
They should be at least 50 grams before you breed them. And then once they are, yes you just put the male in with the female and he will know what to do.Just keep an eye on them the first half hour.To make sure they don't hurt each other. If the female isn't ready she will fight with him if he persists.

Actually I've found that putting the female in with the male has more success. I believe that since the male knows his territory and sees a female in it that he knows it's okay for him to mate without a fight from another male. If he's just automatically put in with a female into some territory he's never seen he will be a little more "distressed" for the lack of a better word..lol. Good luck.
