Little Bugger Found a Place to Hide

ninjabat Feb 09, 2005 01:14 AM

I have this store-bought "Hollowed-out Log" hide for my corn snake. It's a manufactured thing that has a hole in it. My snake crawled in there tonight and I never thought to cover the hole with masking tape. So now he's in there with no way to get him out unless he feels like it. Anybody out there have a recommendation on how to get him in case he doesn't feel like coming out for me in the next day or two?

Not sure how to get him out quickly but just wanted to say not to put any tape on it. It could very well harm the snake if it gets it on him. Im sure he'll come out soon enough. Good luck.

You can try taking the whole hide out, placing it in another container, and then place them both into the refridgerator for a few moments to a few minutes. Your snake won't be cooled enough to harm it in any way, but it may get out of its hiding place long enough to look for a warm spot.

Another option is to slowly submerge the hide in some very cool water. When the snake runs out of dry space (and air!) it will come out.

Of course, if it cannot get out because it is stuck in there by something, you cannot use either of these options for long, or it could kill the snake. So, be careful however you act.

a snake in a good hide is a happy snake. He'll come out to drink, feed, thermoregulate, etc.

You bought the hide so he could do exactly what he's doing.

I had the same thing happen to me with one of my corns. Here' what to do. Fill your bath tub up with cold water then place the log in the water the cold temps. should make him or her flee the log. Make sure that the snake doesn't drown though. I know that it sounds cruel ... but it will work.

>>After it comes out just stuff the thing full of paper towels. Just keep stuffing them in there until it won't hold anymore.
I did this with the ones I have. Works like a charm.

My thoughts exactly. When my snakes were hatchlings I stuffed those kinds of holes with paper towels. And I wouldn't go through the trouble of getting the snake out with water, etc. - He'll come out on his own.
