Growth Stunts

Ppk Jul 06, 2003 10:17 PM

Well I've read some previous posts and I'm a tad bit scared. Builtforspd has a monitor that is about 6 months old and about 21". My monitor is nearly a year old at nearly 13 inches w/ tail. Now she says her monitor may have stunted growth although she sees signs of shedding on hers. My sav just started shedding quite a bit more than usual last week after I started feeding him more. He shed off his belly and head and this week about 3 days ago I noticed he is getting whitish on his back and tail. Also now that I've been "power feeding" him he is looking much bulkier and his tail base is growing bulkier. Now can my monitor be stunted or was this year not a great year for him growth wize since he grew 7 inches this year? If I keep doing what I am doing, will my monitor get to be over 2 feet by the end of the year or is he going to grow slowly? I am concerned and scared.

Nobody can tell you that for sure.Just keep doing what you are and see what happens. It should grow well if fed a rodent diet. You might want to add a calcium supplement a couple times a week(just to be sure). My Blackthroat didn't grow very much the first 6 months, then BOOM!She hasn't stopped growing since

Hmmm, interesting. My monitor didnt grow the first 3-4 months then grew a little bit. I really hope to see a major growth spurt. Any more suggestions?

Just make sure the temps are high enough for it to digest it's food.I personally keep my cages 100-110 hot side,75-80 cool side with basking spots in the 130-150 degree ranges.I also use a ceramic heat bulb at night to keep it 78-95 night temps.Good luck

Yeah, his ambiet is about 88-94, cool side is about 75-80, and his basking spot is about 132 .
