How big ????

Keith Hillson Feb 09, 2005 08:42 AM

Alright lets lighten things up a bit just for fun. How big is the biggest King you own and also give the stats on the animal i.e. Type, age, sex and of course size. Also if you have one popst a pic as well.

ive got a male goini who is about 2 yrs old i would say. he isn't all that large...maybe 2-1/2 feet in length. he eats well, causes no problems and has a cute face.

My male Monmouth Co., NJ Eastern King. He is 58" long. My male 2004 GA will no doubt pass him up and soon as he is at 45" and is only a little over a year old.

45" yearling? Holy crap what did you feed that thing??? That is also an odd hatch being an '04 and just over a year old now? Or am I missing something.

bluerosy Feb 09, 2005 02:47 PM

well if he was a late '03 hatch he would be just a little over a year old.

Keith Hillson Feb 09, 2005 03:27 PM

Just over a year is misleading he was a September hatch so he is 1 year and 6 months. In September 2004 he was 41" long and now he is almost 46". He is a freak as he is bigger than Easterns that I ahve that are 2002 hatch. Ive never power fed him he just puts it all into length but now he start to bulk up and not put on so much length.

Here he is at 6 months old

-
Here he is at 1 year old in September

-
Here he is next to a 2004 sib thats a year younger.

Althogh not my biggest my 03 male is right at 42" and that is with missing a few meals from the hurricanes and me moving. I also skip a week in my feedings every few weeks just to take a break. He was born in July of '03 and is from Cook Co. His sister is at 40" inches and I hope to pair them if she puts on more weight this year. No power feeding for eather of them just good old Ga. blood.

jlassiter Feb 09, 2005 07:19 PM

This is my 2000 male Hypo Brooksi. On Serpwidgets it measures between 66" and 69" (I tried it a few times). See what you guys get using Serpwidgets.
This is my hugest kingsnake. It will breed for the first time this Summer. I wonder how he will do. I know I better watch him close with my 48" hypo striped female. He might get bigger. LOL!
Does anyone have one bigger?
John Lassiter

BlueKing Feb 10, 2005 08:55 PM

That's impressive & a very handsome snake too! Can't believe he's only 4 years old! That's great! He'll be eating rabbits in a few years!!! First breeding, huh??? Got to be a world record for biggest virgin (male) Kingsnake, lol! Keep us posted on the breeding (success). Good luck!

Zee

jlassiter Feb 10, 2005 09:24 PM

Zee,
He already feeds on adult rats. I am sure he can eat a large one but I feed him medium sized rats. I am breeding him for the first time to another virgin female that is a striped hypo Brooksi (Don Shores' line). Like I said the female is only 48 inches (she is 3 1/2). I will keep you guys posted on the results.
John Lassiter

Here is a pic of the female:

BlueKing Feb 09, 2005 07:57 PM

Here's a pic of Big John. He was 76" last time I measured him back in November! He was NOT happy to have his pic taken today! But here he is. I'll be breeding him to the large female E. King that I got from Keith this year. Enjoy (I put the yard stick & an old gallon milk jug next to him for scale)

Zee

BlueKing Feb 09, 2005 07:58 PM

Forgot to mention, his eyes are fine. They look white from the flash. He's about to shed.

&**^%$#@_(*&&%^@*)^@)*&%)@!!!

i recognize that stance, none of my animals like to pose during brumation either...

jlassiter Feb 09, 2005 09:02 PM

Nice snake Zee!
That guy is HUGE!! Hence the name "Big John".
I wonder if anyone has a kingsnake that is bigger? That one is nearly a foot longer than my Hypo Brooksi male. I wonder if he's grown any since November?
John Lassiter

BlueKing Feb 10, 2005 08:50 PM

THANKS! Like his name? Big JOHN!!! Halfway named after you, (John) lol! I tried to measure him last night, but THAT wasn't happening! He put up a valiant fight (complete with musk & urine)! So I figure I'll get him another day!

Zee

Keith Hillson Feb 09, 2005 10:47 PM

Dude he truly is the "King" of this forum. What a bad ass! Better watch him around that Indigo of yours lol.

Keith

BlueKing Feb 10, 2005 08:46 PM

Thanks Keith! I tried to measure him - but NOOOOOO way! He put up a valiant fight (complete with musk & urine), LOL! He was not happy yesterday! He's nearing the end of his brumation, since our winter here has been less severe than usual.

Good God Man!

That thing is enormous. My original GA male is approaching 6', but it looks like your boy'd wup his ass and ask for seconds. He is beautifully colored and patterned as well. I'll bet he was quite orange as a lad. How do his kids look? Freakin' awesome dude! Thanks.

Will

BlueKing Feb 10, 2005 09:10 PM

Thanks, Will! This year will be my first time breeding him. I'll be breeding him to a large S.Ga. female I got from Keith. I'll try to post pics of her tomorrow. . . Can you post a pic of your large male? Would love to see him.
By the way, the little guy you sent me ate (again) with all the rest of my other 04' babies yesterday (2 meals in 2 days - I'd say he's caught up!). And the little girl is doing great - and looks like she's on fire (yellow & bright orange coloring). Take care, man!

Zee

daveb Feb 09, 2005 08:35 PM

this dude is 7 1/2 years old. 62" long, weighs in around 1.5 kilograms (3.3 lbs). definitely a fan favorite around here.

Keith Hillson Feb 09, 2005 10:45 PM

When you see a snake like that it makes you realize how cool normal Brooksi are. I think some get caught up in the morph thing and forget how beautiful an animal is in its natural state. Thats an awesome snake Dave !

capnmoby Feb 10, 2005 08:51 AM

48" female aberrant desert phase California King.

mattcbiker Feb 10, 2005 04:35 PM

Will try to get a pic of them together soon. 3-4 year old brooksi is about 54" and my female eastern who is 7 is about 48-50".
